At precisely 9am, "Delivering the Goods" started me off. I decided to use songs for this morning I didn't have/own for this ride.
Returning to ALM is bittersweet in many respects, as a lot of good people I knew are no longer here, but the bitterness is starting to dissipate and I felt really good yesterday. It carried over to today and though the ride through Brooklyn's initial blocks is a little noisy and congested due to the construction so I couldn't wholly let me music propel me just yet.
The past month I know I've gotten a little sluggish due to the back spasm and all the post-triathlon eating. So to be back on the bike feels good.
As I was coming up Willoughby I saw that I had seconds to go to cross over Flatbush and nailed it just in time. Right around that time, "Losers and Winners" came on.
There were a lot of riders lined up at the entrance to the Bridge. "The Real Me" played just as I approached the incline. I planned it that way. I haven't heard the song in too long and I must admit that it felt good to have it push me up the ramp. I have the Oppenheimer strap bag today which is not ideal for riding and I have the lock on the front bar to spare my back the extra weight.
There's work on the Bridge so I will have to be mindful of it later. Lanes are closed.
"With A Full Head of Steam" began playing toward the decline and I passed a school of kids in red shirts resembling the Coca-Cola branding but it was not that. The song took me to the end. I did this trip in 20 minutes, maybe a bit less.
The cost of a round-trip on the subway is $5.50. I'd be happier with the money. It's the equivalent of the grapefruit and chicken salad lunch I have with me. I'm glad to be returning to the old stomping grounds. Something about it feels right (even though not completely) but it's a new beginning and I'm very happy about it right now.
Thank you for reading this.
